Dementia

Dementia is a syndrome that can be caused by a number of progressive disorders that affect memory, thinking, behaviour and the ability to perform everyday activities. Alzheimer’s disease is the most common type of dementia. People with dementia, their families and friends are affected on personal, emotional, financial and social levels. Lack of awareness is a global problem. Commissioners have listened and will continue to listen to our stakeholders in the design and delivery of a dementia care pathway. The redesign of the care pathway will improve access to services and improve outcomes for patients and carers. This work is in line with the National Dementia Strategy 2009 ‘Living Well with Dementia’
