Childhood Obesity: Targets

The Public Service Agreement (PSA 12) - Improving the health and wellbeing of children and young people, included a national target for childhood obesity with the aim to ‘reduce the proportion of overweight and obese children to 2000 levels by 2020 in the context of tackling obesity across the population’ with an indicator of success as holding the rates of obesity amongst children under 11 to a maximum of 18.1% by 2011. Childhood obesity has been identified as a priority in the Commissioning Strategic Plan for Lewisham 2009-15, and reducing childhood obesity is also a Lewisham Children and Young People strategic partnership priority.

  • NI 53 – Increase the prevalence of breastfeeding at 6-8 weeks from birth to 72.5% by end 2011.
