  • Promoting healthy weight in children, Healthy Start scheme, breastfeeding management, weaning, healthy eating, motivational interviewing. Let’s get moving

Universal prevention

  • Cookery clubs, children’s centres, schools, nutrition guidelines and professional nutrition support for community groups, health trainer support, community gardens, healthy walks, free swimming for under 16 and over 60’s

National child Measurement Programme

  • A high participation in the programme ensures that robust data on local child obesity prevalence is available.

NHS Health Checks

  • Personalised advice provided to all adults on how to achieve and maintain a healthy lifestyle – diet and physical activity

Weight management services

  • Targeted weight management services for children aged 5-16 years and their families (MEND).
  • A new specialist children’s weight management and early years targeted programme to be commissioned in 2011.
  • Shape-Up community weight management programmes for overweight/obese adults aged 40-74 years
  • Adult weight management by primary care dietetic service at GP practices and dietetic support at LHT.
  • Exercise on referral scheme.
